Referencing is a way of showing the reader that the information you included in your assignment is supported by research. Referencing enables you to show what you have researched, how you have used it, and how others may locate it. At CCT College Dublin, Harvard Referencing is the 'house style'. Every assignment you submit that has a written/research component should be in the Harvard Referencing Style. The good news is that Harvard Referencing is a neat and consistent style of referencing that you will become quickly used to. It is also known as the 'author/date' system and this gives a clue as to its structure. You can either refer to the CCT Harvard Referencing Guide to learn how to format your references manually or use a reference management software, such as Zotero. You must take referencing very seriously. Failure to do so is considered a breach of college regulations and is treated accordingly. Feel free to contact the College Librarian, Debora, at debora@cct.ie if you need assistance with referencing. |
To install and use Zotero, please follow the steps below:
Go to www.zotero.org. Download and install Zotero 6.0 for your operating system (Mac or Windows or Linux) on your laptop and the Zotero Connector for your web browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Safari).
When you open Word you should see a Zotero tab in the ribbon; if the tab is not visible you may have to install the plugin manually.
To do so, please follow the instructions available at this Zotero link or contact the librarian for assistance.
Zotero comes with a handful of popular citation styles installed. Please ensure to select 'Cite Them Right 12th edition- Harvard' as your default referencing style.
